During CES, while Keychron showcased its latest mechanical keyboards featuring extended battery life, it was the Nape Pro trackball that truly captured attention. As Keychron’s inaugural foray into the world of trackballs, its sleek form factor allows for various placements on your desk. You can position it traditionally to the right or left of your keyboard, or opt for a more forward placement, enabling you to operate it without needing to shift your hands away from the keys.
This functionality resembles a larger version of Lenovo's TrackPoint, which is commonly found on ThinkPad laptops but also appears in dedicated keyboards. This design not only facilitates cursor movement but also lets you manipulate the Nape Pro’s rotary dial and utilize its six fully programmable buttons—all while maintaining your hand's position.
Paul Tan, co-founder of Keychron, shared with The Verge that the Nape Pro is set to launch soon in Japan through a crowdfunding campaign, with plans to arrive in the US by spring at a price range between $60 and $100, which may vary based on tariffs.
